Join Us in Expanding Women’s Healthcare Access
Volunteers are essential to WHOM’s mission of removing barriers to women’s healthcare in displacement and underserved settings.
By joining our team, you contribute your skills and compassion to meaningful clinical care, education, and health empowerment.
Whether you’re a medical professional or supporter of women’s health equity, there are ways to make an impact.
Practical details: Placements are in Athens, for a minimum of two weeks (four preferred). Volunteering is self-funded and volunteers arrange their own travel, accommodation, and any professional registration or indemnity required to work with our partners. You should be comfortable moving between sites (on foot or by public transport) and working across diverse cultural settings.
Two ways to get involved:
Clinical volunteers
We connect skilled clinical volunteers with our trusted partner organisations, who deliver care within their licensed clinical settings. If you're a women's-health clinician looking to contribute your skills on the ground in Athens, we can help place you where you're needed and support your time here.
This may suit you if you are:
A physician (resident PGY-2 or above) in OBGYN or Family Medicine with an OBGYN focus
A junior doctor (FY2 or above) who has completed OBGYN rotations
A GP or trainee GP with an interest in women's health
A midwife experienced in contraceptive prescribing
A prescribing nurse practitioner or paramedic experienced in contraception, including implant or IUD insertion and removal
Education, outreach & skills-based volunteers
Much of WHOM's impact comes from work that doesn't require a clinical background. If you'd like to lend your skills — remotely or in Athens — we welcome support with:
Health education and outreach
Translation and cultural mediation
Communications, social media, and design
Research and needs assessment
Referral coordination and administrative support
Whatever your background, if you care about women's health equity, there may be a place for you.
Why volunteer with WHOM?
Make an immediate impact: Help women reach the care and information they need, every month.
Grow and contribute: Work alongside experienced clinicians, global health teams, and partner organisations.
Be part of a community: Build connections with fellow volunteers and partners.
Meaningful work: Be part of an effort that expands access and dignity for women too often missed.
WHOM works with women in vulnerable circumstances. All volunteers are vetted, and everyone who works with us is expected to understand and uphold our safeguarding standards. You can read more on our Governance & Accountability page.
We review every application and will be in touch to talk through how you might get involved.
