Working Together to Expand Access to Women’s Healthcare
Women and girls make up approximately half of the world’s displaced population, with more than 60 million people forcibly displaced or stateless worldwide, according to UNHCR.
Displacement creates significant barriers to women’s healthcare. Many women are unable to access routine, preventive, or sensitive medical services in a safe and timely way.
WHOM works in partnership with established NGOs to close these gaps by providing health education, outreach, and referral support in settings where access is limited.
Founded in 2022, WHOM has been providing women's health education sessions and outreach one week each month in partnership with local and international organisations.
Our team brings clinical expertise, global health experience, and a shared commitment to women’s healthcare access.
WHOM has been fortunate to work with talented and dedicated interns who have contributed enormously to our mission.
Ellen volunteered with WHOM during her studies at the University of Sussex, bringing both academic grounding in international development and a hands-on commitment to women's health in humanitarian settings. During her time in Athens, she led two impactful projects: collaborating with local pharmacies to develop a multilingual resource on emergency contraception and the contraceptive pill, making vital information accessible to women across language barriers; and helping to establish a network of referral pathways to connect women with diagnostic testing and secondary healthcare services. Both projects continue to benefit the women WHOM serves. We are deeply grateful for Ellen's contribution and the lasting difference her work has made on the ground.
Raphaëlle holds a Master's degree in Public Health with a focus on the social determinants of health and equitable access to care. Drawn to WHOM by a shared commitment to women's health and humanitarian values, she contributed across a wide range of activities during her time with us. Raphaëlle strengthened WHOM's social media presence, helping us reach more women in need of services and grow our community of supporters. She researched the cost and availability of sanitary products in Greece, providing valuable insight into the everyday financial barriers facing the women we serve. She also supported us directly in clinic, contributing to patient outreach and referral coordination. Raphaëlle hopes to build a career working directly with people in health or social care settings, and we have no doubt she will make a significant impact wherever she goes. We are grateful to have had her as part of the WHOM family.
